Wonder what makes our Spiro•nauts out of this world while thriving in the NEW NOW™? Check out our series featuring behind-the-scenes peeks of what drives their distinctive THERE•ness™!

Spiro·naut Rachel Slocombe-Charlton, Senior Administration Team Manager on our UK Client Relations Team, approaches life with a positivity that radiates to those around her. Read Rachel’s take on staying sharp in the workplace, while leaving time for the things that bring her joy.

From the city of Sheffield, UK, enjoy this glimpse into Rachel’s world—both in and outside of work.

What superpower do you bring to work?

I would like to think that my superpower is being the [British influencer] "Mrs. Hinch" of the admin world—I have tips and shortcuts for every need!

How do you refine and sharpen your skills?

Take each day as a new day, methodically plan what is needed to be achieved, involve others, and communicate best practices. Knowledge is not power—it is to be shared.

What excites you about your work and our industry?

I absolutely love that no two days are the same! I work with a fab admin team, along with the wider Spiro teams throughout the UK--and now, more globally within our EMEA region.

There is a positive energy that spills out into this fast-paced industry that we work in.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve done or place you’ve visited?

The coolest thing I have done is visiting a crocodile park near Port Louis in Mauritius, South Africa. It was both scary and exciting to see these creatures in real life, and I managed to get a photo with one! Seeing nature in its habitat really appeals to me.

I have also visited the Turtle Sanctuary in Cape Verde, West Africa, where they protect turtle eggs laid on the beach in the hope that it helps increase how many turtles return to the sea.

What makes Spiro™ stand out from other agencies?

To be honest, I haven’t worked for other agencies before, but the appeal for the role when I joined was the company itself. There’s movement & change taking place, with the opportunity to work across multiple teams and countries. I often say to new hires that Spiro is like a family business—we are all here to help each other and be successful.

What’s an interesting fact that people may be surprised to learn about you?

I got into cooking after working with Marco Pierre White on the launch of one of his restaurants. He gave plenty of helpful tips for a new starter.

What else would you like to share from your world?

I love my French Bulldogs, AJ and Lennon. I can’t imagine life without them, as they provide great downtime when I’m not at work. They have made their appearance on the odd [Microsoft] Team’s call! It’s nice that Spiro embraces the dog community as its wider family. Love the Spiro·stuff for them!
